Social Media in the future

Social Media is definitely growing and is used worldwide, and will continue to grow beyond what we could imagine. Sometimes when you think they can’t possibly come out with something bigger and better, they do. For Example every time they come out with a new smartphone there is something added to it that makes everyone want the latest. Soon enough we may not even need to use our laptops anymore, and just be able to use our phones to do everything, even hook it up to a printer and print whatever we need to print.  They are probably going to come out with something greater than the iPad as well. Man things are just going to continue to get better, bigger and more costly at the same time.

I believe that there will be a cultural change, where people will begin to find it increasingly more acceptable to expose more and more of their personal details on different forms of social media.  Sharing your likes, dislikes, opinions, photo’s, videos, and other forms of personal information will be the norm and people will become more accepting of personalized experiences. Google’s Social Search will change the way we interact with search engines by pushing relevant content from our personal networks to the front of search results, making them more personalized. Social functions will become so commonplace in digital experiences that the thought of not having socially-enhanced experiences will seem illogical.

One thing that seems to be gaining popularity right now is 3D imaging. 3D is no longer just being seen in the movie theaters, but they are being seen at home and on gaming devices. Just the other day I was able to play with the Nintendo 3DS.  When I went to the mall and saw them adverting the 3D TV’s I couldn’t believe it, I would have never thought they would come up with Televisions for 3D with glasses to come with it. Technology is advancing very quickly and in a couple years from now, who knows what will take place with social media and technology upgrades and changes.

Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?

I think that social media has the potential to bring positive social changes and a positive impact on our world. As we all know about various types of social media tools and the advantages of their usage, we also know that the media is becoming more and more powerful. The influence of media is continuously and rapidly growing.
The latest example of the tragic event in Japan shows how essential, helpful, and informative the social media is. Through the social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook, or Yahoo, people are able access more quickly current updates on the situation in Japan. When logging into my e-mail account I also noticed that there was a link to Red Cross and people were able to access a variety of links to charities and make a donation for those who were victims of the cataclysm. Moreover, without an access to social media, I would not know about the details of this tragic event so quickly.
Today, people are using social media very effectively because they have instant access to information and news that those websites provide. They can also connect with family members and friends all over the world by using Facebook or Twitter. People may use those social media websites to express their feelings and share their thoughts on specific topics as well as make comments on what someone else said. As a result, users engage even more in the online interactions as it is very convenient and easy to use for people of all ages.
I believe that social media is a tool which is already used very efficiently by majority of people and it will continue to be used in the future, as it is a growing phenomena and a part of new technology. It has the potential to bring about real social change by its unlimited access and easy availability.

Do you believe that social media has increased the quality of news and information or decreased it?

I think that social media is a great addition to our lives and it has improved and increased the spread of information; however, it also has some negative aspects. Social media brought significant changes into the ways that we communicate and retrieve information. Such media is very popular and people benefit from it as it is convenient to use and easily available to everyone. The most significant benefit of using social media is that it is an accessible and inexpensive source of communication that enables unrestricted flow and exchange of information. It allows people to communicate regardless of their global position and to access information and news from the entire world. We no longer have to wait for the evening news because we can now access information or news much quicker via internet.
Despite the fact that social media enables a quick access to different types of information, it is essential to remember that not all information comes from a credible and a reliable source. Information retrieved from social media stems from many different and sometimes unverified sources: therefore, readers need to judge and assess the quality and credibility of the news on a case by case basis, being able to differentiate between facts, opinions, and speculations.  In many cases general people can access social media websites and add own comments and information that are simply based on opinions and individual experiences. As readers we must be fully aware that social media can be both accurate and misleading in information provided.
With the increase of available information through social media I believe that the quality of information may have increased as readers have more access to various sources and can better determine the validity of the news and information reported. This may also allow readers to form better decisions in regards to the quality and credibility of information posted. If approached with caution and awareness I do believe that readers now have access to more quality based information.

What is your perception of social media, do you think it is a fad or the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution?

In my opinion social media is one the biggest shifts since the industrial revolution. Social media is something that will always evolve because it is another way to of communication. They are used for many things like finding old friends, meeting new people, and staying in touch with family. Not only is it used for creeping on other peoples lives but as long as there is a platform for people to promote themselves and their businesses, it will be ever lasting. Photos are taken, videos are posted, and you are able to see conversations between members. This brings more interest into knowing more about a person’s life without them telling you. As technology gets upgraded so will social media, it will never get old. You can definitely compare this with the technology of the cellular phones. There was a time when you would communicate with a pager, then cam the cell phone but in a very large form but it was used to communicate with others. Then the phones got smaller and it went form calling to text messaging. Now days cell phones are known to be the hand held computers. You could click one button to call your mother, you click another you are texting a friend, and then you double click an icon you can read what message your sister has left on your wall. My friend pages, hi5, black planet, wire, vibe and my space all had their time when they were at the top of social networks. When it came down to it, there was always one upgrading its features and becoming the dominant one. Pretty soon facebook will completely be overshadowed by twitter because of how much more access to information you will have to peoples lives. Social media will stay on top world wide for as long as people stay interested.
